The Mr. Smoe interview ended early when I pushed on how a compassionate ghost could also harm people. He wants to review the tape before I share it. That same day, a friend's Ring camera caught a dark shadow and an orb on an empty porch.

Main Subject: Candle Face

I recently interviewed someone who says he believes in Candle Face. It didn’t last long. Things became tense when I asked how he could describe Candle Face as “compassionate” while also saying she harms people who don’t believe in her. My questions seemed to irritate Mr. Smoe, and the interview ended earlier than I expected. I did record it, but I promised to let him review it before I shared it anywhere. So far, I haven’t heard back from him.

After the interview, I needed to clear my head, so I walked to the creek near my childhood home. It’s a rough area, with steep cliffs and uneven trails, but we loved it as kids. We spent hours there playing games like hide-and-seek and capture the flag. I filmed some of the area and plan to share that footage with the interview, if and when Mr. Smoe gives his approval.

Later that day, I stopped by a friend’s house in Southeast Austin. We ended up talking about the interview and the dreams I’ve been having, the ones that make me think Candle Face’s victims may really be trying to reach me. While we were talking, something strange happened. His Ring doorbell camera picked up a large dark shadow on the porch and an unusual orb, even though no one was there.

My friend thinks the interview may have stirred something up, especially because both of us grew up knowing how dangerous Candle Face’s legend could be.

I’ll share the interview, the footage from the creek, and the porch video as soon as I have permission. It’s been a strange few days, and I don’t get the sense that things are settling down.

The investigation continues in the three most recent entries below. Each adds to the record on Candle Face (Isabel), the Lost Souls, and the Fugitives. You’ll find every entry to date in The Journal.

Arthur Mills served for more than two decades as an Army Intelligence Warrant Officer, specializing in piecing together what others missed: patterns, threats, enemy intent, and clandestine activity. He trained intelligence professionals, built threat models, and briefed commanders and world leaders on global threats and battlefield strategy. After retiring from the military, he moved into private investigation, focusing on missing persons, human trafficking, opposition research, and domestic terrorism. He holds a degree in Counter Terrorism Studies.

He has been writing books since 2006 and is an award-winning author. He publishes under his own name, though much of what he has written has appeared under pseudonyms. Readers may already know those titles without knowing they are his. The separation is intentional. His books invite readers to interpret what is hidden, and so does the way he publishes them.
